Using smaller size circular needles, cast on 70 (80, 90) stitches or any other number that is divisible by 10.  Place marker and join in round. Rib k1, p1 until beanie reaches 13 cm if you want a folded brim, or 6 cm if you want a hat without brim.

Body of the knit hat: Change to bigger size circular needles.

Round 1: [k2, pt, k1, pt, k2, p3] – repeat 7 (8,9) times.

Round 2: [k2, slip next 7 sts to the right-hand needle holding working yarn in back, (count ryo as one stitch), k2, p3] – repeat 7 (8,9) times.

Round 3: [C2(3)B, k1, C3(2)F, p3] – repeat 7 (8,9) times.

Round 4: [k3, slip next st to the right-hand needle holding working yarn in back, k3, p3] – repeat 7 (8,9) times.

Repeat Rounds 1-4 until work reaches desired length – 13-15 cm.

Before shaping the crown knit Round 1 one more time and don’t purl the very last stitch as we are going to decrease it right now.

Shaping the crown of the knit hat:

Round 1: [k2tog, k1, slip next 7 sts to the right-hand needle holding working yarn in back, (count ryo as one stitch), k1, k2tog, p1] – repeat 7 (8,9) times.

Round 2: [Slip 2 stitches to the extra needle and hold in back of work, k3tog from the left hand needle, k2tog from the extra needle, k1, Slip 3 stitches to the extra needle and hold in front of work, k2tog from the left hand needle, k3tog from the extra needle, p1] – repeat 7 (8,9) times.

Round 4: [ k2tog, skpo] – repeat 7 (8,9) times.

Break yarn leaving a long tail. Use hook or tapestry needle to thread this tail through remaining 14 (16, 18) stitches. Pull tightly to fasten securely. On wrong side weave in ends.
